Boxmeer, 2013 - A former school is given to the neighborhood. How to make the lawn around the building into public and meaningful space?
HOE HET NU IS (the way it is now) is a monumental installation in the public space around De Driewiek, a community centre in Boxmeer (NL).
A wooden gate, like a Japanese torii, a standing stone, a wall drawing of three circles on plaster and some hillocks together form a small world of primitive manifestations; menhirs, gates, hills, we all know what they are. The title of the work is placed on the wall in mirror letters - only visible at short range. Farther away they blend into their surroundings. A folder provides some thoughts on the installation.
HOE HET NU IS is the result of a cooperation between housing corporation Mooiland, nearby residents and visitors of 'De Driewiek', social workers and me. During the implementation of the work the management of the community centre decided to use the drawing of the three circles as their logo.
